Oh... Portland...
Portland city council just passed a new policy requiring landlords to pay up to $4,500 if they evict tenants with no cause or increase the rent more than 10 percent in a year. Which is great and needed and finally gives tenants the rights they've been clamoring for, but which is also, however, at least two years too late. My rent was raised two hundred dollars in two years, and a co-worker of mine had her rent raised five hundred dollars. This new policy is like wrapping a scarf around someone who has had their throat sliced open. The damage is done. The vicious, money-grubbing, bottom-feeders called land lords have had their day. And if this policy had happened when it should have it might have had an effect. As it is, this is just gonna help and support the invasive invasion of non-local residents who can afford to pay 1,300 or even 1,500 dollars a month for a one bedroom apartment.
