DARK DAYS

I look around, at my country and my government, and I think to myself, it can't get any worse. Then I realize who and what I'm talking about. I mentally slap myself for being so egregiously stupid, and I try to grasp, with a great degree of failure and as much modesty as I can muster, the destructive and imperialistic behavior of one man and his incompetent regime.

ALL HAIL KING GEORGE!!

FOR THOSE OF US ABOUT TO DIE-
WE SALUTE YOU!!

THE SUN NEVER SETS ON THE AMERICAN EMPIRE.

I hate being right. Part of me realizes and believes that I shouldn't be as right as I am - which seems to be most of the time. There is, in point of fact, nothing special about me. I am not overtly intelligent. I do not have a college degree. I was educated in the public school system of this country; true, this was before Art, and free-thought, and music were declared obsolete, and subsequently discarded due to lack of funds; which can be directly attributed to the invasion of Iraq, and the inherent frivolous and obscene spending therein. I have two friends that graduated from Harvard. Another one of my good friends makes an excellent living and owns a four bedroom two and a half bathroom house. My brother has distinguished himself with a few degrees in the collegiate world, and my sister is currently working on her PHD. I do not say these things to vilify or condemn my own actions. I am proud of who I am. Proud of the majority of choices I have made (with only a few glaring exceptions), and proud of the work I have accomplished, and will- if fortune favors me- continue to accomplish in the future. No. I say these things to express to you, with all humility, that I am not the brightest star in the night sky. Which, very circuitously, leads me back to my, admittedly arrogant, point: I hate being right.

I mean, how is it that your humble narrator is right when so many of our congressmen and women, so many of our senators and people in power, so many people who have far more education and far more worldly experience than I, are wrong?

We are in dire trouble - DIRE TROUBLE - when someone like me is not only smarter, but also MUCH smarter than our president.

Therefore, our world, our country is headed for dark days.

Habeas Corpus has been removed. This is wrong. This is un-American. And I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I am right about this.

American civilization as we know it; the civilization our forefathers fought and died to create and protect is silently, ostensibly, being taken away. What it's being replaced with is dark, secretive, repressive, tyrannical, and violent. America and its national interests are the villain. We are the Empire, and King George is Darth Vader without the cool mask and even cooler voice. Dare I say it? I've said it time and time before - Twenty-First century America looks more and more like Nazis Germany to me. Habeas Corpus being removed is just one small example of this. Lets not talk about the environment, or how America is the number one pollutant on the face of the earth; lets not talk about the gargantuan division between the poor and the rich in this country, let alone the world, or the fact of rising inflation and an unwillingness by the majority of conservatives (who happen to be wealthy) to raise the Minimum Wage (a standard that has been raised dramatically in countries such as France, Japan, England, Australia, and Germany); lets not talk about outsourcing torture, or our presidents flagrant disregard to abide by any level of what might loosely be construed as human rights; lets not talk about the absurdly named Patriot Act, or the fact that the president is using the tragedy of 9/11 to further his political, monetary, and religious goals; lets not talk about how one man, and one regime, in less than 8 years has completely, and possibly, irreparably destroyed America's image, going so far as to obliterate bonds that had been forged over decades of hard work, by men much more intelligent than he, between countries that have, and have not, been our allies. No. Let's talk about this little thing called habeas corpus.

Habeas Corpus, or, in full- habeas corpus ad subjiciendum is defined in Webster's New World Dictionary as such- Law any of various writs ordering a person to be brought before a court; specif., a writ requiring that a detained person be brought before a court to decide the legality of the detention or imprisonment. Habeas Corpus was created in 1679 by English Parliament, and later written into the Constitution of the United States defining a "critical right".

Our leader and chief, signed into law the Military Commissions Act of 2006; basically writing off habeas corpus, which provides us, that means you and I - American citizens - the right to know why we have been imprisoned. This done under the guise of protecting freedom and shielding us from the terrorists, as well as overpowered by the lion's share chant of: WAR - WAR - WAR! Our liberties, our "freedoms", our rights as citizens of America are, again, quietly being taken away from us. Once again, and much to my chagrin, G.W. has done something I thought I would never witness in my lifetime - effectively changing the very context of the constitution and the Bill of Rights so as to better-fit his zealot, ideology, despotic, medieval rule, and war-mongering, oil-obsessed, political agenda. Setting himself "up", and his constituents, as modern-day tyrants cloaked in religious rhetoric and more than happy to invade a country - seemingly ANY country - that happens to stand in HIS way.

I am appalled, I am sickened, and I am terrified of my own government. But what should I have expected? Come on. These are the same idiots who allowed the assault rifle ban to slip. These are the same mindless, simpletons who passed a bill NOT allowing SUV's to undergo the same stringent emissions standards as normal vehicles. These are the same moronic, Mongoloid-boys who want to destroy every natural resource we have, rape the planet until it bleeds, abandon countless American citizens in the face of a natural disaster, NOT abide by the globally accepted Geneva Convention, and be the biggest, swaggering, buffoon in the world.

Congratulations, Bush! Ya' done good, boy.

We, that is- us Americans, is now both hated and feared throughout the world. I thought the Reagan administration was bad, but this current regime makes any one organization before it look like a pack of Cub Scouts deliberating on the best methods on how to achieve a Merit badge.

The next ten years for this, country and its people are going to be rough; mark my words.

Yet again, I hope I'm wrong. I hope someone out there can prove me wrong. I won't be angry or frustrated if that happens. I'll be ecstatic.
