September 10, 2006 Contemplating... Talking with my good friend, Summer made me think about some things recently. We were talking about lying, more specifically liars, and or, people who tell lies. There is a specific person, or kind of person I'm referring to. Maybe you've experienced these people. They are liars, who, when caught lying, will tell you the only reason they lied was so that they would NOT hurt you. It struck me today as I was taking in a rare, sun-filled Portland day at the cusp of Mount Tabor that nothing could be farther from the truth. The inherent problem with this sort of twisted mentality is the fact that these people, these liars, are intrinsically aware that a lie hurts a hundred times worse than the truth. How? Well, it has to do with their "twisted" mentality. To say that you lie in order to save a person further pain is, innately, a lie, in and of its self, because, the only person who is being saved further pain and hurt is the liar. Rather than deal with the meat of the matter, the truth, and therein deal with their own icky actions, they would rather avoid the situation and liability all together. In essence, they're saving their own skins, but never the skin or heart of the person who they professed to be so concerned over. So, not only are these "people" liars, in the worst sense of the word, but they are also selfish bastards; willing to befoul not only their own lives, but the lives of those around them, in an apparently cyclical, and I might ad futile (for a liar is always found out) attempt to alleviate from their own hearts and minds any and all responsibility and accountability.
