Just say no...

You know, it would be an accurate enough statement to say that I'm a skeptic. I try to question everything, because for me, it is the only intelligent thing to do. And to do the intelligent thing, even to attempt the intelligent thing, is always best.

Think for yourself. Make your own decisions. Question authority… fuck that, question everything! Don't let your ideals, your opinions, your mind be manipulated by others, whomever, or whatever, they may be. Make up your own mind. Take responsibility for your actions, your successes, as well as your failures. The world is a difficult, sometimes dangerous, sometimes painful place. Contrary to popular belief this is not a negative statement, far from it. It is, case in point, a realistic statement. If you do not believe me, you need to look at your history, as well as the societal and cultural climate currently.

In saying these things, and not to brand an already marked cow further, I ask one thing of those out in the ether, living life as well as they can, scrabbling an existence of sorts… a life, those living by the beating of their hearts and the wisdom of their minds… do not make any "new years resolution". Do not make resolutions. Resolutions are crass and momentary. For lack of a better phrase, "fuck 'em!" Rather than a resolution, stand up and make a vow… make a commitment. Resolutions are a temporary fix to a lifetime of mistakes, commitments, and goals are those things that help us to strive for a better life, or more to the point, a life of deeper fulfillment.

I had always told my ex that I don't believe in marriage… never have, never will. However, I do believe in commitment; believe in it with every synapse of my brain and every cell in my body. Commitment is what separates the warriors from the slaves, the strong from the weak. Find what it is that makes your blood burn and your mind electric. Dive into your passions with a heedless abandon, giving in to whatever may come.

Strength… damn it! It's about strength. Strength of mind, body, and heart.
