"Let Me In", the (I guess) American version, of the Swedish film "Let the Right One In", based on the Swedish novel by the same name is actually quite a good movie. The direction is good, the pacing superb, the cinematography sublime, and the acting superlative. There were a few things simply not right, considering the movie was supposedly set in 1983. The lead bully has a Justin Bieber haircut. I was there in 1983, and no one, especially psychopathic bullies, wore their hair like that. He would have been better suited with a mullet and a golden cross earring. But enough about my quibbles, at the end of the day, one has to ask the simple question, why? Why make a movie that is, almost shot for shot, an exact replica of the Swedish film? You could argue that your bringing the story to a wider audience, and that might be true. However, I truly do not understand the impetus behind copying a film not even three years old, and a film that in its own right is a stunning masterpiece of mystery, horror, and love. "Let the Right One In" is brilliant in every aspect. "Let Me In" is a facsimile, a copy. It's a good copy, and if you haven't seen the former you won't be disappointed by the latter, but I just don't see the point.
Therefore, "Let Me In" gets a RICE CAKE review.
