  I CARE A LOT

Wow, there is not much to like about this irredeemable movie and it's irredeemable characters and the awful lives they live.

First of all the movie's somewhat billed as a black comedy. However, there's no comedy anywhere in the movie. Elderly abuse is NOT funny. The characters are written so awfully there's no distinction on who may or may not be the protagonist, and who may or may not be the antagonist. Everyone's so goddamn awful, so goddamn morally bankrupt it's hard for the viewer to find any footing. Why even in a black comedy whose very nature is to be subversive, dark, and irreverent, a good writer puts in a kernel of character, some likeable quality, onto which the viewer can grasp, holding themselves above all the Hollywood horror. Not in this movie. Everyone's just awful.

Secondly, there's a moronic shoot-out in a nursing home between gangsters and a guard who is "packing"... in a NURSING HOME. I've been to nursing homes; they have no "guards", and certainly none of them are armed like a New York policeman. The who scenario is just unrealistic to the point of being ludicrous.

Thirdly, there are some good actors in here, but as stated before, there characters are written devoid of any sort of humanity so that they come off just as unrealistic and ludicrous as the rest of the movie.

Forty-five minutes remaining and the antagonist (I think) has finally done what he should've done in Act 1 and threatened (I think) the protagonist, who has kidnapped and imprisoned an old lady so that she can steal from her, and I realized... I don't give a shit.

"I Care a Lot" doesn't have a clue as to what kind of movie it is, and it's apathy sickens me. I also get the sense that it was socially motivated as some sort of "woman-power" movie; which is totally fine and I support that. But you can't write horrible characters with no humanity, humor, or redeemable quality of any kind and ask me not to cheer for the Russian gangster to put a bullet in her horrible face! I mean, this might be redundant at this point, but I think the woman who kidnaps, drugs, and abuses old people is supposed to be the protagonist. And I'm not even fucking kidding! It's fuckin' horrible, therefore it gets my dreaded RICE CAKE review.
