I loved, THE GUARD, for many different reasons. It does not hurt that my all-time-favorite actor, Brendan Gleeson, ably helms the film. It does not hurt that the script is bitingly irreverent, suspiciously poignant, and understatedly witty. It does not hurt that from story to direction, cinematography to editing, acting to writing it is about as top notch as they come. It also does not hurt that the writer of THE GUARD, is the brother who wrote and directed, IN BRUGES, my pick for best picture of 2008.
Nah, all that means nothing. What is really important is that THE GUARD is a wonderful take on the Cop-Buddy movie, and it just may be the best movie of the year.
THE GUARD, gets a FOUR COURSE MEAL review.
