  CLASH OF THE TITANS

I remember the 1981 "Clash of the Titans". I remember three things: I remember hating Harry Hamlin's hair, coveting Andromeda's breasts, and thinking the Kraken was freakin' cool!

This "new" version is all right. It ain't great. But it's not horrible. There are some pretty cool set pieces. Charon is really freakin' cool. Some of the C.G.I. is awesome (like the Kraken, Hades envisioned in black, amorphous smoke, with glittering, red embers, or the scorpions), some of it is awful (namely Medusa). The characters are light, but given a decent script to play with; some of the lines are trite, some are kinda fun. The prosthetic work is great- the desert "Jin's" are really cool, so are the witches. But the story is really rushed, and flooded with superfluous special effects.

On a side note, Sam Worthington bores me. Who is he, and where did he come from? He's the new got-to-man concerning epic action films. I find him dry, and uninspiring.

On a whole, "Clash of the Titans" 2010 is okay. I would give it a solid BIRTHDAY CAKE review. It's pretty and well-filmed, but there's not much wiggle room for story or characterization.
