I give the movie Harsh Times, a FOUR COURSE MEAL review.
This movie is slow and steady and focused. It is not a profound movie, but I do think it's an important movie; a quick glimpse into the life of a soldier, come back from war, and the inherent difficulty of trying to acclimate back into civilian life. Bale, per usual, is bloody outstanding! Bale, I do believe, is becoming- or maybe he already has become- one of the greatest actors of the twenty first century. His ability to disappear into his characters is not only mesmerizing, but somewhat frightening (watch his brilliant, yet startling performance in The Machinist).
Everything in Harsh Times seems real. From Freddy Rodriguez 's rocky relationship with Eva Longoria, to the two friends, Bale and Rodriquez, getting high. Harsh Times is stark, gritty, and dismal. Not for the faint of heart.
