  THE ILLUSIONIST

"The Illusionist" is utterly captivating. It moves forward with a fluid grace. Nothing is forced. Nothing is contrived. The movie feels like one of the best scripts written, and it moves along rather typically but it is so damn appealing you fall under its "spell", feel the lure of its characters, and are entranced by its timeless appeal.

I give "The Illusionist" my highest review: FOUR COURSE MEAL.

There are so many wondrous things within this movie that it is very difficult where to decide to begin. Suffice it to say, the acting is superb, the direction appears flawless, the writing immaculate, and the special effects magnificent. Of special note should be, as always, Paul Giamatti, whom once again, familiar to form, turns in one of the most astoundingly brilliant performances of the year. I am always pleased, and genuinely amazed at Giamatti's talent. He is quite literally amazing. He never overacts, and he never under acts, what he seems to do, role after role after role, is turn in, what would appear to me as, perfect performances. My only hope is that this man is making fist-fulls of money. He damn well deserves it!
