Okay... so... I've been putting off this review for sometime now. Mostly because I had been waffling for months over whether or not I like the new "Blade Runner" sequel. I wanted to give it a fair shake; therefore I wanted to watch the movie again, and I did so last night. And well...
I LOVED IT!
I mean, I loved nearly everything about it. I loved the score, I loved the cinematography, I loved the script, I loved the acting and the mind-blowing special effects. I not only think "Blade Runner 2049" is a good movie, I think it's a great movie. I did not think I would be thus transformed upon a second viewing, but I was. And I'm so excited, because Denis has announced that he will be working to get two "Dune" movies out. And even though I've loved half his films and also hated half his films I believe he may be the perfect director to attempt to bring Frank Herbert's masterful science fiction novel to the screen properly.
Back to "2049"... and to explain a little bit about my reticence to gush over the sequel, I think the original "Blade Runner" is THE greatest science fiction film ever made. Ridley Scott is also my favorite director. And I realized I was very much married to the original, and did not think they could come anywhere close to replicating its dark noir tone. However, "2049" is its own beast, and needs to stand on its own merits. And I believe it does that exceptionally well.
Finally, I give "Blade Runner 2049" a FOUR COURSE MEAL review.
