  INCEPTION

Oddly enough, it could be argued that Christopher Nolan's most recent film "Inception" is, quite literally, the most boring film ever produced. Realistically, the protagonist and antagonist sleep through the majority of the, almost three hour, movie. Theoretically, they create entire worlds, get into massive gun fights, fight hand to hand while floating through hotel corridors, ski like James Bond over snow capped mountains, stop the bad guy, save the girl, and are ultimately re-united with dimly remembered family members.

Or do they?

"Inception", the movie, is brilliant. I loved it, as I have loved every Christopher Nolan film since "Memento". (He is fast in the running to becoming my second favorite director, and the race is between him and Danny Boyle.) At first, I was perplexed as to why such a momentous and exceptional movie as "Inception" was receiving "mixed" reviews. Then it hit me. If you, as the viewer, don't buy, and or, understand the concept, you will either be lost or confused. Furthermore, if you think the concept is just plain stupid, there's no way that you will enjoy the film. It's a movie based entirely on theoretical concepts, and I humbly submit, that it could never have been made without Christopher Nolan. I was recently at a writer's conference pitching my high-concept sci-fi/murder/mystery and I started wondering how one may have actually pitched a concept such as "Inception". Suffice it to say, I came away thinking that one would probably have been laughed out of the pitch session. It's all based in theory. However, "Inception" is so adroitly wrought, so wonderfully spun, and such a vision to watch that it simply begins to transcend normal movie viewing. This movie stays with you long after the credits have rolled. It eats away at your perception, twisting the visions within your mind's eye, and pulling you into dream landscapes and impossible physics.

Inception gets a FOUR COURSE MEAL review. Go see it. Drink coffee, not beer, before doing so, see it on a big screen, and be prepared to think, watch, and stay in your seats for well over two hours.
