"Before the Devil Knows you're Dead", is an absolutely brilliant movie. It is, in fact, a melodramatic, modern day, Greek tragedy, bolstered and compounded by the superb performances of both Ethan Hawke and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. It is not an easy movie. The people who populate the movie are, for lack of a better word, not nice. It is not, let us say, an entertaining romp, as are some Michael Bay films, rather, "Before the Devil Knows you're Dead" is a movie in which you might think about brewing a pot of coffee, get comfortable, and prepare to watch upwards of two hours of deranged, yet wonderful, drama; drama that seems to drip off the screen.
I give "Before the Devil Knows you're Dead" a FOUR COURSE MEAL review.
