I really enjoyed the remake of Total Recall. It just happened to take two viewings for me to appreciate what they did in the movie. You see, the first time I saw it, I thought it was somewhat boring and predictable. But then I realized I had been saying (for years) that I wanted to see a remake of the original; a movie I love, but a movie, nevertheless, that is inherently flawed. And with that realization came a second; one of the main reasons I did not like Wiseman's Total Recall the first time is because it was not the movie I would have made. So, I watched it again. And you know what? It's a pretty good, smart, sci-fi film. The production values are top notch. The story is well paced and edgy, and the future is well thought out and realized. Not to mention you have Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel (whom, I might ad, does NOT suck in this film); two of the sweetest meats upon which your gaze may easily linger.
You know what? I just realized something else. One of the main reasons I did NOT like it the first time I saw it was the homage to the original film- the three-breasted whore. This haphazard and awkward inclusion doesn't work. It would have been better if Wiseman would have cut it; especially considering he wasn't making a remake, but was more concerned with following the short story (which, unfortunately, I have yet to read).
Still, with all that said, I think Len Wiseman's Total Recall is fantastic, a wild ride, and well worth the high FAST FOOD MEAL review I now give it.
