  The Proposition

The last couple of movies I've seen recently have been, to say the least, interesting.

I give The Proposition a FOUR COURSE MEAL review.

The Proposition is very, very different. It moves along at an unimpeded, relaxed pace, very similar to one of my most favorite westerns of all time: Unforgiven. The Proposition is both ambiguous and slightly strange. The characters live in a reality that is both gray, as well as black and white (this being an almost literal interpretation regarding the film, considering some of its themes). The cinematography is wonderfully inspiring, as are some of the performances.

The Proposition is a difficult movie, in the same sense that Crash was difficult. There are aspects of beauty to each character, even the rapists and murderers, and those that appear the most virtuous, may indeed be the least. I am pleasantly surprised when movies of this kind are made. Because The Proposition is not easy, and does NOT pander to ignorance, I am more than happy to be proved wrong when I think they don't make these kinds of movies any longer. They do.

Check this flick out. And while you're at it. Check out Down in the Valley.
