Holy movie magic! I liked "Disturbia". Yes, I will gladly and publicly admit, that I not only liked, but I thoroughly enjoyed "Distubia". Therefore, I give the film a high FAST FOOD review.
To tell the truth, I was not expecting much from this film. As a matter of fact, I was expecting a bore-fest, and a pale, facsimile of Hitchcok's brilliant thriller, "Rear Window". What I got was a taut, exciting, well-acted, well-scripted, well-directed, suspenseful, and sometimes down-right-creepy homage and newly wrought facsimile of "Rear Window". I liked this movie from scene one, and my attitude did not change through the whole film. Admittedly, this movie succeeds and fails on the talents of two men, Shia LeBouf- the protagonist, and David Morse- the antagonist. Both actors do exceedingly well. LeBouf is always convincing and honest in his delivery, and Morse, as the neighborhood killer, is absolutely chilling; he has a cold, calculating, yet amiable sense to him that I have not glimpsed in an actors eyes for at least twenty years: not since Rutger Hauer played the murderer John Ryder in the brilliant film, "The Hitcher".
Rent "Disturbia". Watch it at night, with the lights out, and you will have a "thrilling" experience.
