  EQUILIBRIUM

I just saw this movie, and… holy shit! Aimlessly I picked it up from the shelf at my local video store. I turned it on, sat next to my beauteous Mel, never knowing one thing about it, and was happily and completely blown away.

Now, before I proceed, and extol the virtues of the movie Equilibrium let me tell you one thing… it ain't perfect. Indeed, you could easily call this a direct rip-off of other Sci-Fi movies like George Lucas' brilliant first film, THX 1138, or even The Matrix, or even the novels Big Brother, and Fahrenheit 451.

However, Christian Bale is superb at playing a man awakening to his latent emotions. The drama is completely understated and adroitly executed by some phenomenal performances. Even the music rings out true, emphatic, and passionate in every scene. It has Sean Bean (again, in another memorable, but regrettably, short sequence). The action scenes are stunning, way over the top, but, for lack of a better word, awesome.

This movie rocks. It was one of those untimely and rare experiences when I chose something because I wanted to see actions or fight scenes, and was introduced to a story and characters that I ended up, much to my chagrin, loving.
