Two years ago I reviewed "The Hunger Games", and begrudgingly gave it a BIRTHDAY CAKE review. It was a heavy-handed, what appeared to be amateurish attempt at bringing to the screen the extremely well written and engaging novel of the same name.
This time I am most happy to say that "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is a different beast entirely. What they did wrong in the first film (mainly allow plot points and character development to fall to the wayside) they corrected, and did exceedingly right in this movie. Everything, and I mean everything- story, dialogue, make up, costuming, cinematography, direction, special effects- is superior in the second installment when compared with the first. So much so you get a distinct feeling from all the actors that they could "feel" the movie more, and thus emote on a much more genuine and visceral level.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is a complete and utter success. That is why I'm giving it my highest review- FOUR COURSE MEAL review. Enjoy.
p.s. and no god-forsaken shaky camera!
