God in heaven this is a good movie! And I do not even believe in god!
Miracle gets a FOUR COURSE MEAL review.
This movie is near to perfect.
Kurt Russell, albeit always brilliant, is exceptionally brilliant. His performance of Herb Brooks is awe inspiring. I'm sure Oscar in its dubious wisdom will undoubtedly forget all about Russell and this movie when the awards are handed out this year. And that my friends is fuckin' cryin' shame. If anyone out there ever doubted the talents of Kurt Russell before, read my "Ode to Kurt Russell" on this section. If after that you still doubt, just go see Miracle, you will never doubt him and his worth as an actor ever again.
The direction is superb and seamless. The emotions realistic and not contrived, and the hockey sequences are more than adroitly filmed.
Wonderful! Superb! This is what a movie should be.
Ironically enough, fellow scribe and resident Portlander, Mike Rich wrote the majority, if not, the entirety of this script, albeit you will see no mention of this anywhere. Through some bizarre litigious haggling, WGA awarded the original writer with full credit. Meaning, in essence that, Rich got zero credit. Personally I think it's his best work yet.
