Master and Commander, The Far Side of the World

Master and Commander, The Far Side of the World, starring Russel Crowe and Paul Bettany is completely and utterly brilliant.

I give Master and Commander, The Far Side of the World a FOUR COURSE MEAL review.

My loyal readers, or reader, as the case may be (thanks ma), it does not get any better than Master and Commander. Have you ever seen a movie or read a book and been so enthralled and enraptured by the screen or the text that you can't imagine how anyone could possibly dislike said movie or book?

That is the way I feel about Master and Commander.

This is a movie filmed with an old, hopefully not outdated, feel. The director pays more attention to character than special effects (take note all Wachowski Brothers and Lucas wanna-be's). The relationship's are developed and nurtured so that when the shit really does hit the Napoleon-like fan it has meaning and depth, and a vibrancy so lacking in many modern films that they most movies feel hollow, like husks of former movies. The acting is beyond superb, it is (and forgive me for my redundancy) brilliant; case in point Crowe, Bettany, and that little blond kid, Max Pirkis, whose character turns out to be even more memorable than either Crowe's or Bettany's. The direction also smacks of brilliance, neither forced nor contrived, but, as some of them often say, spot on. Barring one, obtrusive scene done-up in CGI, the movie was so realistic it felt as if it was a documentary. And the story is so well wrought, so well written, and so intelligent I have not the words here to describe it.

See this movie!

It is not action-packed!

It is not a roller-coaster-ride!

It is story telling at its very best.
