  PET SEMETARY

"Lewis Creed, who had lost his father at three and who had never known a grandfather, never expected to find a father as he entered his middle age, but that is exactly what happened... although he called this man a friend, as a grown man must do when he finds the man who should have been his father relatively late in life."

That is the first sentence, which begins Stephen King's amazing horror novel, "Pet Semetary". The relationship between the characters Lewis and Jud is established in the very first sentence of the book. I emphasize this fact, because in the two directors overwhelming arrogance, ignorance, and stupidity the first thing they do is eschew this relationship between the two males. Creating, instead, some pseudo connection, laughable at best, between Jud and the daughter, Ellie. Why oh why do directors, or producers think they can do better, and or, improve upon something that is timeless? You can't. So, just fucking stop all ready. The 80's film was good. It was fun, and it was true to the material. Fred Gwynne's performance of "Jud Crandall" will live on in our memories and our hearts. I do not dislike Jon Lithgow, on the contrary, I think he's an amazing actor, with amazing depth. However, that Maine accent, so expertly delivered by Mr. Gwynne, is missing from Mr. Lithgow's rendition. And I gotta say... I miss it.

I turned off the film twenty minutes in, it pissed me off that much. That's why it gets my dreaded RICE CAKE review.
