My personal opinion concerning the disgusting and dangerous practice of drilling for oil in the middle of the ocean not withstanding, I liked "Deep Water Horizon".
Peter Berg is quickly becoming the clone of Michael Bay. He seems to focus entirely on American issues, which is fine. However, just like Mr. Bay, he is increasingly wearing out the image of an American flag waving strongly in the wind. His movies are directed and acted well, and for the most part I like them. "Deep Water Horizon" is both interesting and engrossing. Kurt Russell, as always, is outstanding (the gravitas he can convey just through a simple stare is amazing). And the rest of the cast is also very good. If you can get past the subject matter and realize it is a story about people overcoming incredible odds, you will enjoy this flick. And that's really where Berg shines; his attention to character and humor (humor that is never forced) is not just commendable, but applauded. His characters never seem trite or shallow. What they are, are well-rounded, accurate, and real.
"Deep Water Horizon" is a good movie. That's why I give it a FAST FOOD MEAL review.
